Most people who have visited the Island of Malta will agree that a rental car is not necessary. The public transportation system on the Island is extensive and reliable, and it can be taken anywhere a tourist wants to go.

The public transportation system in Malta consists of busses. There is a main terminal where the busses can be boarded - which is located in Valletta. However, passengers can board the busses at designated bus stops. Details on the bus routes, where bus stops are located, and information about bus fares can be found on the Public Transportation Authority's website.

The color of the busses on Malta is orange and each bus has a sign on the front, which states the buss's route number. There are a few express busses that make the rounds to the main resort areas on the Island, which are: Sliema, Marsaxlokk, Mdina, and the Three Cities. The busses also travel to the beach areas.

The public busses can be taken to just about any place on Malta that any person could ever want to go. Because of the size of the Island, most bus routes are only about half an hour long (at the most). However there is one route - which is the absolute longest - that lasts for about an hour.
