There is an Embassy Shopping Complex on St. Lucia Street, which sports a few good boutiques such as Benetton and Terranova, a movie theatre, a food court and an arcade. The Savoy Arcade on Naxxar Road is also a good place to look for clothes, accessories and souvenirs.

There are several streets that have good shops for souvenir hunting, the most popular of which is probably Republic Street. This is where you can find most of the bigger shops in Valletta. As with most thoroughfares in the town center, Republic Street is only for pedestrians, so there are always lots of window-shoppers around. There is also Triq Repubblika, which caters mostly to tourists with its numerous vendors of film rolls, postcards and trinket souvenirs.

In Merchants Street, you will find Valletta’s daily open-air market, where people sell not only fresh food but also cheap crafts and sometimes fake products. It is only open in the morning, so get there well before noon to take in all the vendors have to offer and get some good bargains. On Sundays, the market is held outside of the town walls, but it is accessible by bus. Sample some of the locally made nougat, as it is a Malta specialty.
