Ford Island a small island in the middle of Pearl Harbor, HI was referred by Hawaiians
in past times as Moku Ume Ume. As noted before it was bought by Dr Ford and Changed to his name.
Unlike other Hawaiian Island it does NOT have a Volcanic Crater or Cinder Cone.
Its flatness is due in part to out and out bulldozers, according the National Park Service.
In my many walks on the Island from bldg 77 to almost the bridge I have collected and noted a lot of old Coral and evidence of the attack on Pearl Harbor such as pieces of small old rusty metal.
With all the Development on the Island it is unlikely
any interesting items like I mention above are to be found.
The Admiral Chick Clarey Bridge AKA the Ford Island Bridge was completed in1998.
I could hear the echos of the pilings during the bridge work clear over at Pearlridge Center.
I never realized that water construction would as with land ones create echos!!
Before the Bridge getting to Ford Island (Moku Ume Ume) required going either by Ferry (2) or Small Gray Boat operated by the US Navy from Water T on Ford Island itself. They are a division of Naval Station Pearl Harbor.
Building 77 on Ford Island during the attack on Pearl Harbor was the Admin Bldg.
Throughout the Decades it expanded in size and hosted various commands.
In the late '80s it was the NOPF a Navy spy installation.
As of this year 2006, it is for the present time Defense Finance and Accounting Service.
