There are plenty of events in Hawai`i to meet all visitors tastes.

The largest one as far as World-Wide attention is the Merrie Monarch Festival. The Merrie Monarch Festival is held each year on the Big Island to honor King David Kalakaua who stated "Hula is the language of the heart and therefore the heartbeat of the Hawaiian People," after he had had enough of the holier-than-thou  haole* missionaries telling Hawaiian People that they can't dance the Hula. or speak the `Olelo (Hawaiian Tongue) Language.   This is historic truth.**  References:

Thankfully the old timers kept this cultural and religious practice along with the language (olelo) alive and vibrant.  Hula is done by both Kane (Men) & Wahine (Women) and the 2 forms are `Auana (Modern-Hollywood) and Kahiko (Ancient-traditional style with lots of chants).

On O`ahu is the Prince Lot Hula Event held sometime in the summer. Also there is one Keiki (children) Hula event during the year.  The Moanikeala Hula Festival is held in January at the Polynesian Cultural Center in tribute to the late kumu hula Sally Wood Nalua`i.

In May, the annual World Fireknife Dance Championships showcase Samoan fireknife dancing.  Competitors come from all over the world to win the title of world's best and there are even categories for kids as young as six!

Also throughout  Hawai`i  is  King Kamehameha Day Parade and statewide events.   The horses wearing lei look awesome!

During the fall there are Ho'olaule`a events throughout Hawai`i for the Aloha Festivals. The food at the Flavors of Honolulu (formerly Taste of Honolulu) on O`ahu is awesome.

Surfing is great, especially in the winter up at Northshore's Pipeline/Sunset etc. on O`ahu and on the neighbor islands too.

And of course, the annual remembrance of Pearl Harbor and its attack on December 7th, 1941.

* Haole is derived from Ha Breath and `Ole Without or None, reportedly because the foreigners were not able to chant their family lineages. There is nothing wrong with the word haole unless said in anger.  Haole also means foreigner.
