- If you're looking for some background and historical information on Machu Picchu, a great source of information is offered by the Machu Picchu Library. This site offers a number of articles about the city, Andean culture, the Incans, along with a number of maps.

If you're planning to travel to Machu Picchu via the Inca Trail, there are a number of books available that provide all the details you'll need to plan your trip. One such title is "The Inca Trail: Cusco & Machu Picchu" by Richard Danbury (Trailblazer Publications, 2005). Most other guidebooks to Peru provide more general, yet still useful, information. The budget-friendly Lonely Planet guidebook is an excellent choice, as are Frommer's and Fodor's guidebooks.
