Ushuaia doesn’t rank at the top of family vacation destinations. It’s not up there with Disneyland, Hawaii or the Caribbean, but taking the kids to Ushuaia is a surpisingly family friendly getaway option.

First, the people here are friendly and accommodating to families with children. Even small children will be treated like royalty here. You’ll find they are welcome in all the restaurants and hotels will oblige you with whatever you need to make your stay comfortable.

There aren’t any children’s activities here, as in arcades or water parks. It’s not that kind of getaway, but if you want to bring the kids, consider this an educational family vacation. They will love exploring the area, looking for interesting wildlife and hiking the hills. Most hikes aren’t strenuous necessarily, and the easier hikes are fine for children ages 9 and up.

If you take a day trip on a boat to look for whales or penguins or the like, be sure to take one of the shorter trips and decide if your kids are up to the activity required if you should get off the boat. Some of the day trips include a short hike when you get off the boat for a bit, while others are a bit more sedentary and involve the boat ride and looking for wildlife. Only you know your children and what works best for them.
