Gold and wine, nature and music, literature and sports are all enough reasons for celebration in Dahlonega. Gold is big thing, yes everywhere it is, but in Dahnolega they take it very seriously. It is no wonder as the place was a hot spot in the old days after 1828 when the precious metal was discovered. Every October, locals and visitors celebrate that historical event in the Historic District. There is entertainment for everybody: live shows, parades, Queen and King Coronation, gospel singing, dancing; there is even a gold panning contest! For further details, check out the festival's website at http://www.dahlonegajaycees.com.
