The Blue Lagoon can be found on the road from Keflavik airport to Reykjavik it is easy to find.

Although you can hire at car at the airport, there are excusions offered from Reykjavik to the Blue Lagoon at an approximate cost of 3600isk each.

During winter hours the pool opens from 10am until 8pm.

You arrive at the car park and a short walk through the lava rock path takes you to the main entrance. Inside is a gift shop to the right and to the left is the desk.

Cost per adult is 1300isk, bring your own towel or hire them for 300isk. You may also hire swimming costumes and robes etc for an additional charge.

You are issued with a blue wristband which has an inbuilt chip allowing you one entry though the barrier. The is a short walk up some stairs (left for the ladies, right for the men) and all changing rooms lead to the same place.

Inside the changing rooms you will find secure lockers, activated by your wristband, any food/drink purchases onwards can be put onto your wristband for payment on exit. The lockers are easy to work.

You can change in the rooms with others but for the more reserved, there are adequate changing areas with lockable doors. You will need to shower before and after the lagoon, again warm showers with curtains are provided for privacy.

Outside the changing rooms leads you down some steps (indoors). On the right at the bottom is the cafe bar area. You can enter the lagoon two ways, either brave the outside and climb down the pool ladder, or immerse yourself in the inside pool and walk through the door.

The bottom of the pool varies in texture and height. Be careful of the rocks that are spread throughout. The water in the lagoon varies in temperature from warm to very warm, there are hotspots, but nothing to cause any damage.

The lagoon provides a waterfall which gives you a powerful massage, steam room and sauna area. There are several places to enjoy the silica mud.

During winter the lagoon wasnt very busy, however given the sheer amount of steam in the pool, you can quickly find yourself immersed in your own world quite quickly.

The lagoon has a website www.bluelagoon.com. A restaurant providing lunch and dinner with a limited menu is available. The food and presentation is of high quality as is the time of service. There is a cafe next to the restaurant which offers rolls, hot dogs, soup and drinks for something lighter.

The Blue Lagoon company offers accomodation 400 metres away called The Clinic. The Clinic offers spacious rooms with large windows perfect for the Northern Lights. Expect to pay 12000ISK per night for a double/twin inc breakfast.

The Clinic offers treatments and offers access to a smaller lagoon (very much the same quality) which is open to guests outside of the main lagoon opening hours. Guests of the clinic are entitled free entry to the main Blue Lagoon with free towel hire.
