Minh Bui, the creative Saigon born chef, is well known to New Orleanians who were sorry to see his restaurant, Lemon Grass Cafe, close. This new post-Katrina venture is a welcome addition to the recovering Mid-City neighborhood that was so devasted by the flood. The modern Asian decor of this newly renovated space is pleasing and bright. The food is a lovely blend of the cuisine of his native Vietnam with other Asian, French and Creole touches. He does an Asian take on the Creole stand-by, crab and corn soup; his bouillabaisse is loaded with seafood and well seasoned with saffron, and his laquered duck is superb. The chicken dish, ga-roti, is probably the most traditional Southeast Asian dish on the menu. Besides these and other excellent choices from the menu, there is always a special or two to tempt you. The wine list and dessert selections are good as well. The staff is attentive, but not intrusive. All in all Cafe Minh is what a fine restaurant should be.
