HOPKINS BY THE SEA

Sunrise in Hopkins

Hopkins is a beautiful fishing village by the sea, and it is in its mid 40's, because it started after Hurricate Hattie hit Belize in 1961.  Previously the residents of Hopkins live in New Town, which was located a few miles north along the coast line.  The population is a little over a thousand, and it is know as the cultural capital of the south of Belize.  The Garifuna culture is predominant in Hopkins, the culture is a part of the everyday life.  Visitors can observe this though the music, dance, language, the traditional clothing including many other aspects of this facinating culture.
