I am a single woman who travels alone often. I have lived in Manhattan for 10 years and appreciate the fabulous lifestyle of the city but try to be sensible with money when traveling. I search for deals and research locations extensively before traveling. I like to be adventurous but don't like to "rough it" (only did a hostel once, backpacking was never my thing) however, I don't have the budget for 5 star hotels (although I have stayed in some with someone's money). So, I try to get a 5 star experience on a 3 or 4 star budget. I don't mind staying in middle of the road hotels such as the Hampton Inn or a Best Western when in the States but when traveling overseas I usually try to be in 4 star hotel or resort because I am on vacation & need a helpful front desk, unless I am in a remote location with no options. I don't like a lot of touristy activities or cultural demonstrations that are "staged" but rather dress and look like the locals and seek out authentic experiences.
